CG Ants

Denner - Bart Timmer

When even the forest creatures benefit from shopping at Denner: The new Denner film stars some very tiny actors. Turns out you can’t train ants to act in a film! Luckily our CG ants displayed a lot less start attitude and turned out to be everyone’s favourite little talent! They followed

Together with Thjnk Zürich and CZAR, we got the chance to create the smallest CG creatures we’ve made thus far. In this fun film a colony of ants gets to work to get as much delicious products to their nest as possible. Known for their exceptional strength, these little insects surpassed themselves, carrying even a heavy watermelon all the way from the kitchen to their nest in the woods. Combining in-camera footage with our CG ants, this films strike a perfect balance between a heroic tale and subtle humour.

Grading CG Ants

Our grader Patski took care of the awesome grade. Working in close contact with director Bart Timmer and the creatives she developed the natural look for the set, and made sure the CG animals looked their very best! Amsterdam based  director Bart Timmer did the grading in our Amsterdam studio while the rest of the creatives joined in via our remote system. Offering a smooth grading across countries during the project.

Music

To complement this visual narrative, we composed an orchestral score inspired by the works of composers like John Williams, Bernard Herrmann, and Ennio Morricone. Using classic orchestral instrumentation—bold brass, strings, and percussion—the music highlights the ants’ determined mission while adding a touch of cinematic flair.

Supporting the Story Through Music

Without any dialogue, the score plays a central role in enhancing the action and humor of the film. The orchestration is designed to bring out both the tension and the lighthearted nature of the scene, making the music a key part of the storytelling.

Our Approach

At Postoffice, we’re always looking for ways to bring stories to life through sound. For this project, we drew from the rich tradition of orchestral film scores to enhance the visual experience and add a deeper emotional layer to the commercial.

We’re proud to have contributed to this project and look forward to continuing our work in creating memorable music and sound for all kinds of media.
